We have another mind blowing episode for you today. Of course an empowerment zone episode wouldn't be a good podcast episode without the "Ask Dr. Akilah" segment. Have you ever wondered when it's a good time to weigh youself during the day? What about the amount of times you should weigh yourself? Both of these questons are answered in addition to information on how to avoid water weight. Shortly after this Dr. Akilah reads a topic request from one of our devoted listeners. This portion of the show is a doozy. You don't want to miss it!

Hi Dr. Akilah,
A small group of my girlfriends and I decided to support each other in our weight loss goals. We all want to lose a minimum of 30 lbs. by the summer. So far so good because we all seem to be right on track. I weigh myself 3 – 4 times a day every day and it’s driving me crazy. My weight is never consistent when I step on the scale but I am losing weight because my clothes are big on me. Can you please help? When is it a good time to weigh yourself and on what day?
Thanks in advance
Shelia, North Carolina
Weighing yourself everyday 3 – 4 times will indeed drive you crazy. Unless you are a masochist it's best that you don't do that. My suggestion is to weigh yourself once a day and once a week. The best time to weigh yourself is in the morning after elimination. Do not consume any foods or liquids until after you have weighed yourself.
Good luck to you and your friends.
Peace and Blessings,
Dr. Akilah El
TODAY'S TOPIC REQUEST
Hello Dr. Akilah,
Can you please do a topic on depression; making the focus on how to deal with ending relationships (girlfriend /boyfriend/ spouse) and LETTING GO mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Thank you very much. Tracey, CA
Let’s look at why relationships end.
When a relationship ends it’s because someone in that relationship thought that they could A. Do better or B. Deserve Better
But sometimes people settle for less than they deserve and will stay in a bad relationship because they A. Can’t do better or B. Feel they don’t deserve better.
- People who are equally yoked have harmonious relationships.
- People who are unequally yoked have on going problems until they break up.
In my opinion, the strongest person in the relationship is the one who ends it.
When you do not know yourself completely. When you devalue your self-worth. When you have low self-esteem you will always find a partner that is beneath you.
YOU MUST KNOW SELF!!!
YOU MUST BE TRUE TO YOURSELF!!!
and most of all
YOU MUST LOVE YOURSELF!!!
Before you can have a successful relationshp with anyone you must have a successful relationship with yourself FIRST!!!!!
Take some time to be alone so that you can establish a good relationshp with yourself.
I agree with the above sign 100%. I can't believe it took me all these years to finally get to this place.
If you're in a relationship right now I want you to ask yourself this question. Does my partner/spouse/mate supplement me or accentuate me?
Check out the definition below.
Supplement – something added to complete a thing, supply a deficiency, or reinforce or extend a whole.
Accentuate – to give emphasis or prominence to. to make (something) more noticeable
Below are two books I want you to read by Christine Arylo. I have these books in my library and I've downloaded them to my phone. Both are an excellent read. I promise. You will nod your head in agreement with each page!
